Title | Hi-kiri shinji |
Text | Fire-Kindling Rite. Held on the night of November 23, at Kanasana Shrine (Kanasana jinja) in Kamikawa Town, Kodama District, Saitama Prefecture. In the dark, a sacred fire is kindled using traditional methods (e.g. striking flints, rubbing tinder etc.). A rite carried out with the purpose of dispelling disease. It is said to be based on the legend of Yamato Takeru's battle with the burning fields during his expedition to the East. — Mogi Sakae |
