Title | Hikime shinji |
Text | "Whistling arrow rite." Held on February 4 at the Chūgūshi shrine attached to Futara-san Shrine in Nikkō City, Tochigi Prefecture, this archery ritual is meant to dispel demons at setsubun. Following the ceremony, prayers for the protection of the nation are read while facing southwest, after which kaburaya (arrows with turnip shaped heads) are shot. There are places in other regions where the word hikime is written using different characters. — Mogi Sakae |
