"Young oak festival." A festival held May 13–15 at Ōtokonushi Shrine in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture. The name comes from the fact that the special food offerings (shinsen) are presented piled up branches of young oak (aokashira, characters that can also be read seihaku). The festival also includes pulling about three festival floats (dashi) outfitted with hand fan-shaped (suehirogata) revolving stages decorated with dolls to the accompaniment of a gong (chanchikibayashi). The floats are enormous, often reaching five meters in height; as a consequence, the festival is also commonly known dekayama matsuri ("big float festival").
