Text | [Ameyuzuruhi amenosagiri kuniyuzuruhi kuninosagiri no mikoto] (Kuji hongi) The first kami to appear in the myth of the unfolding of heaven and earth, according to Sendai kuji hongi alone. This kami has been interpreted as an expression of the sun shining into a mist symbolizing chaos, but as a kami in name and without substance, it is probably apt to view it as a supernumerary to the first generation of deities born in pairs, namely, Amenominakanushi and Umashiashikabihikoji. -Kadoya Atsushi |
