Text | [Ame no ohabari] (Kojiki) Other names: Itsu no ohabari no kami(Kojiki), Ame no iwaya ni sumu kami, Itsu no ohashiri no kami (Nihongi). According to Kojiki, the name of the "ten-span sword" which Izanagi used to kill his offspring, the fire kami Kagutsuchi. From the blood on the sword, yet other deities appeared, including Takemikazuchi and other kami related to thunder, fire, and swordmaking. Later, Kojiki records that the kami Omoikane suggested Ohabari as the third envoy to be sent from the Plain of High Heaven to the Central Land of Reed Plains, but Ohabari was ensconced in the Rock Cave of Heaven at the headwaters of the River of Heaven and had dammed the river's flow, so his son Takemikazuchi was nominated instead. In Nihongi, Takemikazuchi is described as the fourth generation descendant of the deity Itsunohashiri no kami, the "kami who lives in the rock cave of heaven." -Mori Mizue |
