Title
Miitsu
Text
Miitsu can also written 威霊.The term refers to the powerful authority of a kami or an emperor, or to a divine spirit that possesses such power. As recorded in Bizen no kuni fudoki , Takeokumi was sent by Emperor Sujin on a punitive expedition against the Tsuchigumo of Bizen province, but the enemy destroyed themselves without a battle. Takeogumi later reported the victory to the emperor saying, "How else can it be explained, if not for the miitsu of the emperor?" In Book VII of Nihongi, Yamatotakeru reported to Emperor Keikō that he was able to conquer the Kumaso by "trusting in the Emperor's "divine spirit" (mitama no fuyu)." There are many similar instances in which miitsu is used to praise the power of the emperor following a victorious battle.
