Text [Ame no tajikarao no kami] (Kojiki)
Other names: Tajikarao no kami(Nihongi)

A kami whose name means "heaven-hand-power." In the mythic episode of the "rock cave of heaven," the kami Omoikane proposed a plan to lure Amaterasu from the rock cave. According to the plan, the birds naganakidori were gathered and made to call out, norito litanies were offered, and Amenouzume presented an entertaining dance. Curious, Amaterasu opened the rock door slightly and peered out, whereupon Amenotajikarao took her hand and forcefully pulled her from the cave.

In the tale of the "Descent of the Heavenly Grandchild" (tenson kōrin), Amenotajikarao accompanied the imperial grandchild and was later enshrined in the region of Sana no Agata in Ise Province. Since not only Amenotajikarao, but most of the other kami appearing in the rock cave tale are the same as those appearing in the Descent of the Heavenly Grandchild, it is believed that the two episodes were originally linked. Amenotajikarao is enshrined at the Togakushi Jinja in Nagano, and at other shrines.
