Title | Yashimajinumi |
Text | [Yashima jinumi no kami] (Kojiki) Other names: Suga no yuyamanushi mina samoruhiko yashimajino ("Master of Yu Mountain in Suga, whose name is Sa[mo]ruhiko Yashimashino"), Yashimano, Suga no yuina saka karuhiko yashimade no mikoto ("the Master of Yu in Suga whose name is Sakakaruhiko yashimade no mikoto") (Nihongi). An offspring of Susanoo and Kushinadahime. In Kojiki, Yashimajinumi is the first of seventeen generations noted in Susanoo's lineage. Ōkuninushi is found in the lineage of the kami born when Yashimajinumi married Ōyamatsumi's daughter Konohanachiruhime. This places Ōkuninushi in the fifth generation from Susanoo according to an "alternate writing" recorded by Nihongi, and in the sixth generation according to Kojiki. -Mori Mizue |
