Title
Satomiya
里宮
Text Literally, "village shrine." In cases of a dual shrine complex, the one of the pair most easily accessible, located generally in or near a village. Long believed to have originated as yohaijo to facilitate worship of a main shrine located higher or deeper in a mountain area, the satomiya is now widely thought to have roots in the concept of a deity which travels to and from the mountain with the change in agricultural seasons.
