Isotakeru
Text [Isotakeru no kami] (Nihongi)
Other names: Itakeru(Nihongi)

A name found only in Nihongi; in Kojiki, the same kami appears under the name Ōyabiko no kami. An offspring of Susanoo, Isotakeru descended with his father to the Korean kingdom of Silla bearing tree seeds, but he did not plant them there, returning with them instead to Japan. There, he sowed the seeds beginning in Tsukushi (Kyushu), and continued planting forests throughout the land of Japan.

According to Kojiki, Isotakeru (Ōyabiko) provided protection to the kami Ōnamuchi, who was being pursued by his eighty brothers, and helped him escape to his father's residence in the underworld (Ne no kuni). Isotakeru is enshrined at Itakiso Jinja in Wakayama Prefecture. A different deity by the same name, Ōyabiko no kami, was the child of Izanagi and Izanami.
